ICT
When the new wing of the school was completed in the middle of 2008, the school in partnership with Khanya embarked on a venture to start a Media centre which consisted with a fully furnished computer Lab. The Media centre was opened on 29 July 2008 and was named after the principal who has served the school the longest, namely, Mr. Bienjamien Crombie. Since the the educators and learners started using the computer lab, everyone at Strand Moslem Primary have been infected by "IT Mania".
The computer lab is being utilised to its full potential and caters for 28 classes per week from grades R - 7. Everyone at the school are looking forward to their once a week ICT class.
Learners are using various software to improve their Num. & Lit. skills. Teachers at the school have received training from Khanya and are continuously using their newly aquired skills to achieve better results. No wonder the school has received awards from the WCED for Excellence. Software such as Robo Maths, Kipi, Cami and Encarta have proven to be very effective in improving our learners'all round skills. The school has constantly been applauded by officials from Khanya and the W.C.E.D. for its effective utilisation of its resource centre.
Pictured in the blog are learners busy with a Cami exercise. Learning has never been more fun. The gentleman pictured here is the School Network Administrator, the man in charge of the Resource Centre and who absolutely loves his portfolio, Mr. Riyaad Rhoda.
In October of 2008, an ICT course was offered to the public. 25 Members of the Strand community participated in the course and judging from the excellent responses the school is planning to present many future courses to the public. Check the link in our blog for more on the Oct. 2008 course.
Strand Moslem Primary is an example of how ICT can be utilised for the benefit and empowerment of a community as a whole.
